This is a new year for Prince of Peace and a lot of changes in our Library. Our Library now includes about five thousand books! Not too shabby for a young school like ours! HUGE thanks goes to the army of parents that helped by donating books, time, and talent.

All five thousand books now have barcodes and call numbers and everyone at POPCS has a library card.

It was a huge undertaking to computerize this library and for the most part, it it now up and running well. Check in and out is quick and easy. Students are using the computerized card catalog to find books and learn about the dewey decimal system.

Now that we are checking out books we will start working on getting the Scholastic Counts software up and running. For those of you who are familiar with Accelerated Reader this is a program very similar to that.

The plan is to give bucks for every point given by the book which we will store then in the library bank. At a later date they will be able to use those bucks to bid on prizes. If you have any ideas for prizes and would like to donate items, let me know via email, or stop in.

Another program we are starting is the Birthday book program. There are lots of wonderful books out there for Elementary and Middle School Students. If your child would like to donate a book for their birthday (or half birthday for summer birthdays) they are welcome to do that. We will also have a list of hardcover books to purchase from Follett, that Scholastic does not offer if you would like to pick one off the list.

When the student donates a birthday book, we will put a name plate inside the cover with your child's name, birthday, and date donated. They can be the first to check out the book and come back and visit it any time.
