TABLE ROCK MOUNTAIN-Hiking through the seasons-1 January 2004-This was a bit more streneous than the other hikes we went on. Next to and rising above Stool Mountain in Pickens, SC, Table Rock Mountain goes up 3,124 feet. There was still sleet and ice everywhere, but the sun was out and the sky was blue. When we started the hike the temperature was about 30°, but after ten minutes it felt perfectly nice. This is a really wonderful hike! We started at the bottom with a beautiful little creeks and waterfalls; the higher we went, the more we could see. With most of the vegetation dead or in winter mode, it was easier to see farther and get a better view of more of the landscape. There are some GREAT views around the summit. From one view we could see Stool Mountain and that reminded me that we never did get to see this mountain when we did that hike because of the fog. We'll have to do that hike again and hopefully have better weather. This hike is a great workout; three and a half miles up and down. Can't wait to go again.
