STOOL MOUNTAIN-Hiking through the seasons-26 October 2003-The first guided hike Jerry and I went on was a mountain next to Table Rock Mountain, in Pickens, SC, called Stool Mountain, 2600'.Cherokee legend says was the stool where the Great Spirit would sit when eating at the table of Table Rock. Scott Stegenga was the Park Ranger who took us on this hike. We knew when we started that there was a good chance of rain, but it was warm and we had ponchos, so we went up the mountain anyway. I really wanted to see some nice fall colors. At the top of the Mountain there used to be a posh Hotel (in the early 1900's). But it didn't last long possibly because of the difficulty getting all the supplies all the way to the top. There were little remnants of the hotel left like a few bricks...The rain held off for the most part until we were bushwhacking our way down the mountain. We followed a trail up the mountain and followed Scott back down. The rain really made the descent interesting and we were totally soaked when we came back to our cars, but it was sooooo much fun! I have to say the pictures came out better than I thought they would.
